Apple showcases the new iPad’s stunning Retina display

Apple is really proud of its new iPad’s high-resolution Retina display and 5-megapixel iSight camera, and it’s using its website to really show them off. In addition to a gallery of images and videos taken on the new device, the company also provides a nifty feature that allows you to compare the new iPad’s display with that of its predecessor.

The new iPad page of Apple’s website now presents an interactive loupe feature that allows you to compare the display in the new iPad and that featured in the iPad 2 when reading an iBook. As you’d expect, the new device offers crystal clear letters that really pop, while the text displayed on its predecessor is pixelated and blurry.

You can move the magnifying glass around to take a closer look at different areas of the screen. This is similar to comparing the iPhone 3GS’s display to that of the iPhone 4 or the iPhone 4S – there’s a significant difference, and you can see why Apple is so keen to boast about the feature.

It’s also showing off the new tablet’s 5-megapixel iSight camera. It has published a gallery of photographs and videos that demonstrate its ability to act as a replacement for your point-and-shoot. While it isn’t quite as good as the iPhone 4S’s 8-megapixel camera on paper, I think you’ll agree the new iPad takes some incredible images.
