Geekbench results for new iMac and MacBook Pro models with Ivy Bridge processors discovered
Two new Geekbench results discovered over the weekend suggest we may see imminent upgrades to Apple’s iMac and MacBook Pro line-ups. The results, which were spotted by a couple of MacRumors forum members, appear to be from unreleased models.
The first Geekbench result is for a MacBook Pro running OS X Mountain Lion 10.8 (Build 12A211) – a newer version than the one currently available to developers. It has a 2.7GHz Intel Ivy Bridge Core i7-3820QM quad-core processor, and its motherboard matches one spotted in the first OS X 10.8 developer preview.
Also supporting the suggestion that this is a new version, it has the model identifier MacBookPro9,1 – the current generation are all MacBookPro8,x.
The second Geekbench result is for an iMac running OS X Mountain Lion 10.8 (Build 10A2040) with a 3.4 GHz Intel Ivy Bridge Core i7-3770 quad-core processor. As with the MacBook Pro, it has a motherboard found in the first developer preview of OS X 10.8.
Its model identifier is iMac13,2, making it a likely successor to the current generation which are all iMac12,x.
While there’s always a chance that these benchmarks might not be genuine, they are consistent with previous reports regarding the likely specs of the new hardware.
In related news, Engadget reports that Best Buy has lowered prices on all their Macs lines – a move often done to clear existing inventory and make room for new stock.
