Sharp to supply displays for the iPad 3?
According to a Wall Street Journal report, Apple is adding Japanese consumer electronics company Sharp as a screen supplier for its next-generation tablet. Rumoured to be launching in March 2012, the iPad 3 could feature the same Retina display technology introduced with the iPhone 4.
From the Wall Street Journal report:
“One of the people familiar with the matter said Apple’s next iPad is expected to launch next year, and Sharp’s Kameyama No. 2 plant in central Japan will manufacture LCD panels for the device.”
“The person also said Apple is also investing in facilities at Sharp’s panel manufacturing factories in Japan, without specifying the amount being invested, highlighting Apple’s plans to work with multiple component makers to ensure that it can secure enough parts to make its popular iPhones and iPads.”
While it’s always interesting to know who makes makes what for Apple’s products, as somebody who decided against upgrading to the iPad 2 I’m just hoping that the iPad 3 does have a retina quality display – whoever manufactures it.
