Apple has today released iOS 6.0.1 for the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. The update, which includes a number of improvements and bug fixes, can either be downloaded over-the-air by going to Settings > General > Software Update, or by connecting to a Mac or PC running the latest version of iTunes and checking for updates.

If you’ve pre-ordered Apple’s new fourth-generation iPad, you’ll get with it a new 12-watt power adapter. It’s an upgrade over the 10-watt adapters Apple’s been shipping with iPads for some time, and it pumps more power into your device while it’s charging – resulting in around 30-45 minutes off the usual charge times.

The iPad mini will go on sale in just two days, which means the world’s biggest technology websites are beginning to publish their reviews. Like the iPhone 5, the new iPod touch, and just about anything else Apple creates, the iPad mini has gleaned heaps of praise. Yet again, it seems Apple’s onto something special with its latest gadget. Here’s what the reviewers had to say:

EE, the parent company of mobile carriers Orange and T-Mobile, has today launched the UK’s first superfast 4G network. As a result, owners of the iPhone 5 and the soon to be released iPad fourth-generation, should be able to access data speeds of between 8 to 12Mbps on their devices – 5x faster than existing 3G networks.

Ahead of its launch alongside the iPad mini on Friday, the first benchmarks for what is believed to be a fourth-generation iPad have surfaced on Geekbench. The results, which were highlighted by Primate Lab’s John Poole, back Apple’s claims that the device’s A6X processor is twice as fast as its predecessor.

Amazon has a new advert for the Kindle Fire HD up on Amazon.com, and it takes aim at Apple’s new iPad mini. As you might expect, it’s the tablet’s price tag that Amazon has chosen to bash, but it’s also quick to point out that the iPad mini has a “low-resolution display,” and “no HD movies or TV.”

Apple started taking pre-orders for the iPad mini today, but after less than 20 minutes, estimated shipping times for the white model slipped to two weeks in the US, and apparently it was a similar situation here in the UK.

Following Tuesday’s iPad mini announcement, Apple’s senior vice president of worldwide marketing Phil Schiller has found himself having to defend its pricing. Speaking to Reuters, Schiller said he believed consumers would see the 7.9-inch iPad, which starts at £269 ($329), as a premium product worth paying for.

Having announced the iPad mini at yesterday’s special event in San Jose, Apple has posted a couple of videos relating to it on its YouTube channel. In the first video, design chief Jony Ive explains the design process behind the new device, while the second video is a TV advert showcasing Smart Covers for it.
