As much as I like Apple’s Smart Cover, I’ve always been concerned that the edges and rear of my iPad would end up getting scratched. So when Apple quietly introduced the Smart Case for the second and third-generation iPad, I didn’t need much convincing to order one. Priced at £39 ($49), the Smart Case promises the same features as the £35 ($39) Smart Cover, but with full body protection. Unfortunately, it fails to deliver in a number of areas.

Apple has released a new TV advert for the third-generation iPad which highlights both the versatility of the device, and the stunning quality of its Retina display. Titled ‘Do It All’, the commercial shows an iPad being used to send email, read a book, edit a video, watch a show, create a painting, study biology, and more.

During the WWDC keynote yesterday, Apple showed off some of the major changes coming to the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch in iOS 6. Apple has released a new case for the second and third-generation iPad which shares similar features to the company’s Smart Cover, but also offers protection to the back and sides of the device. The Smart Case is made from polyurethane, comes in six different colours, and is priced at £39 ($49).

Prior to its launch in April 2010, there was some speculation the original iPad would have dual dock connectors, one at the bottom and a second down a side. Although those rumours turned out to be wrong, patent applications confirmed Apple had at least considered the idea. Now it would appear they went as far as testing it – a prototype has turned up on eBay.

As we previously reported, when Apple lowered the price of the iPad 2, they also added a smaller, more energy efficient A5 processor to the device. At the time it was thought that the new chip should offer improved better battery life, and this has now been confirmed.

In a press release issued by the company, Logitech has announced the launch of the Solar Keyboard Folio – a book-style folding case for the second and third-generation iPad, that has a built-in solar-powered keyboard.
