Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak loves his smartphones. He currently carries four around with him – two iPhone 4S’s (Verizon and AT&T versions), a Motorola DROID RAZR Android phone, and a Nokia Lumia 900 running Windows 7.5 Mango. While the iPhone remains his favourite, he’s a huge fan of the Windows Phone UI.

Apple has created a couple of new TV adverts for the iPhone 4S showcasing its voice-activated personal-assistant Siri. In a departure from recent ads produced by the company, they both feature celebrities, namely Zooey Deschanel and Samuel L. Jackson.

If there was an award ceremony for ridiculous iPhone cases I’m pretty this one, created by Japanese company Marudai, would take the top prize. Featuring a 1-inch thick armor plate steel back, its makers claim it can resist a direct hit from a 12.7mm 50 caliber bullet!

Before Siri technology made its way into Apple’s iPhone 4S, it was actually owned by a company called Siri Inc., founded in 2007 by three guys named Dag Kittlaus, Adam Cheyer, and Tom Gruber. A standalone Siri application was once available in the App Store – before it was purchased by Apple and baked into its iOS software – and it allowed you to make all sorts of queries using only your voice.

Apple’s iPhone has been sporting a 3.5-inch display since it was first launched way back in 2007. Although the company did introduce a high-resolution Retina display with the iPhone 4, doubling the linear resolution of previous displays, the screen’s size remained the same.

Apple have uploaded two new iPhone 4S TV adverts to its YouTube channel. The first, titled ‘Rock God’ shows an aspiring musician using Siri to buy a guitar, learn how to play it, invite friends over to watch his band perform, and ultimately become a ‘rock god’.

Despite conspiracy rumors suggesting Siri is exclusive to the iPhone 4S in an bid to make you buy one, there’s a very good reason why the virtual assistant has not made its way to Apple’s older iOS devices. It’s actually because the software requires Apple’s latest dual-core A5 processor, and the special “noise-reduction circuitry” the chip offers.

Owners of the iPad 2 and iPhone 4S are now able perform an untethered jailbreak of their A5 powered devices thanks to a tool created by a collaboration of the iPhone Dev Team, the Chronic Dev team, and other members of the jailbreaking community. Called ‘Absinthe A5‘ the tool is currently Mac only, though PC & Linux versions are in the works.
