Working in conjunction with 9to5Mac, Dublin based developer Steve Troughton-Smith has managed to port Siri – the voice-controlled personal assistant introduced with the iPhone 4S – to the iPhone 4. The news is bound to get owners of the previous-generation smartphone excited, but will Apple ever officially allow it?

Of all the new features introduced with the iPhone 4S, Siri – a personal assistant that allows you to use your voice to send messages, make phone calls, arrange meetings and more, is arguably the most impressive. And as ThisIsMyNext discovered, Siri can also come up with some pretty funny responses.

In a press release issued earlier today, Apple announced that orders for the iPhone 4S have topped one million in a single day – beating the 600,000 record previously held by the iPhone 4.

If you live in Australia, Canada, France, Germany or the UK, and didn’t manage to pre-order an iPhone 4S from Apple earlier today, it now seems unlikely that you will receive one on launch day.

If the improved camera in the iPhone 4S is one of the features that might just tempt to you to upgrade, you will probably be interested to see some of the photographs taken with it – Apple have posted eight examples on their website, and while I’m not a professional photographer, I think they look pretty impressive!

I’ll be honest, I haven’t had chance to watch the one hour 36 minute video of last night’s iPhone media event in full yet. By all accounts it took a while for Tim Cook and team to get to the juiciest announcements – the new iPhone 4S and its Siri assistant. Thankfully though, Apple have since posted three short videos featuring last night’s biggest news to their YouTube account.
