One of the most impressive features of the new iPhone 4S is undoubtedly the built-in assistant, Siri. Sprung from a company that Apple acquired last year shortly after it debuted an app, also named Siri, on the app store. What that version of Siri did was a sort of embryo of what we now see built into the very core of iOS. You could give natural speech commands, but what you could do with them was much more limited than this upgraded Siri.

Apple announces iPhone 4S with A5 CPU, 8MP camera, Siri assistant

The wait is over, folks. Apple’s Phil Schiller finally announced the company’s fifth-generation iPhone and put months and months of rumors and speculation to rest. As expected, the new device is called the iPhone 4S, and while it’s identical to the iPhone 4 on the outside, on the inside “it’s all new.”

Apple to stream iPhone media event to Covent Garden Store

iPhone app will reveal the location of £2000 of buried gold coins

Inspired by Masquerade – a book released in the UK in the early 80s containing clues revealing the location of a buried golden hare, app developers Candid Innovations claim to have buried £2000 of gold sovereign coins somewhere in the UK. The location of the coins will be revealed by solving a series of clues contained in an upcoming iPhone app.

This rather unsuspecting image of some sushi (uncropped version here) could be the first photograph released into the public that was taken with the iPhone 5. Its accompanying EXIF data claims it was taken with an iPhone 4, but if you dig a little deeper, that’s clearly not the case.

Would you buy this Smart Cover inspired iPhone keyboard?

If the lack of a tactile keyboard has put you off buying an iPhone, then you might be interested to hear about this concept design from China based eico Motion Lab. Inspired by the iPad 2 Smart Cover, the idea is that you would be able to quickly attach and remove the SmartKeyboard from the front of the iPhone using magnets, or even fold it behind the device for use as a stand.

There’s a number of features we expect to see introduced to Apple’s iPhone 5, such as an 8-megapixel camera, near-field communications technology, and possibly a dual-LED flash. But never in my wildest dreams did I imagine it would come with a ‘laser keyboard’ and a ‘holographic display’.
