Apple has just pushed out a Java update for OS X which removes the now notorious Flashback trojan from infected Macs. The update, which weighs in at 66.8 MB also disables the automatic execution of Java applets.

Apple’s next-generation of MacBook Pros are shaping up to be notebooks worth getting excited about. There’s a good chance you’ve heard about the Flashback trojan – malware that’s reported to have infected over 600,000 Macs. Anti-virus firm F-Secure provided Terminal commands to check systems for infection, but understandably, some users may have been wary of running them. Thankfully, there’s now a much easier way to check for the trojan.

An update to Java, which Apple released earlier in the week to address a vulnerability that is reported to have led to over half a million Macs to be infected by the Flashback trojan, has now been superseded by a second update.

According to Russian anti-virus company Dr. Web, more than half a million Macs worldwide are currently infected by the Flashback trojan, including 274 systems located in Apple’s own backyard – Cupertino, California.

One month on from announcing OS X Mountain Lion, Apple has released the second preview version for developers. Besides a number of bug fixes, developer preview 2 includes Safari tab syncing, Twitter notifications, and contact access requests.
