Apple has published its 2012 Christmas Gift Guide to the Apple online store, helping shoppers pick out the perfect gift for their tech-savvy loved ones. As you’d expect, the guide focuses on the Cupertino company’s latest gadgets – including the iPad mini, iPhone 5, and iPod touch – and the best accessories to accompany them.
Apple has posted a couple of new iPad mini TV adverts on its YouTube channel. The first advert, titled “Photos”, shows an iPad and an iPad mini being used to view images in iPhoto. Rather than showing the same photos on both devices, the two combine to complete one scene – for example, a snow capped mountain is shown on one, while a snowboarder is shown on the other.
Over the weekend, Apple and HTC announced that the two companies have reached a settlement regarding patent infringement disputes between the pair. The settlement sees the dismissal of existing lawsuits and the introduction of a ten-year global licensing agreement which extends to current and future patents held by both firms.
Ahead of its release later this month, Modbook Inc has announced some much-welcomed spec upgrades to its Modbook Pro tablet. The device, which combines the internals of a 13-inch MacBook Pro with a Wacom pen tablet digitizer, will now ship with increased storage capacity, more RAM, and improved pen sensitivity.
Apple has released a software update for all the Mac notebooks that it introduced at its Worldwide Developers Conference back in June. In case you can’t remember, that includes all the current MacBook Air and MacBook Pro models except for the 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display, which only launched last month.
Apple has donated $2.5 million (£1.57 million) to the American Red Cross to help Hurricane Sandy relief efforts for those on the East Coast of the United States. Tim Cook announced the company’s donation in an email to Apple employees this week.

Apple has removed a clever piece of code from its U.K. website that caused the link to its statement over the Samsung ruling to disappear below the fold until a visitor scrolled down to the bottom of the page. The link to the statement is now visible when the page loads on most screens.
While Steve Jobs will be best remembered for being the co-founder and CEO of Apple, he also played a significant role in the success of Pixar – the animation studio responsible for films such as Toy Story, Monsters, Inc., and Wall-E. In recognition, Pixar has now named its main studio building “The Steve Jobs Building”.
