Apple has started preparing the California Theatre in San Jose ahead of tomorrow’s much-anticipated iPad mini media event. Photographs taken by Techie Buzz show brightly coloured posters adorning the outer walls and interior of the venue, while the sign above the theater’s entrance reads “Apple Special Event”.

Apple has lost an appeal against a UK court decision that ruled Samsung’s Galaxy tab devices didn’t infringe on the iPad. The loss means Apple will have to publicly acknowledge that the South Korean company didn’t copy its designs by posting notices on its website and in several newspapers & magazines.

Apple has released a Java update for Macs running OS X 10.7 and above, which promises improved security and reliability by updating the provided version of Java SE 6 to 1.6.0_37. The release also removes the Java preferences utility.

Apple just sent out invites for an October 23 press event at San Jose’s California Theatre, but you don’t need to wait until then to find out what the Cupertino company has up its sleeve. A leaked inventory list may have revealed all 24 models of the new iPad mini – and possibly an updated third-generation iPad – ahead of their unveiling. You can also expect to see new iMacs soon, too.

Apple has uploaded a new iPod TV advert to its YouTube channel. Titled Bounce, the commercial features the company’s latest iPod touch, iPod nano, and iPod shuffle models, which were unveiled alongside the iPhone 5 at last month’s media event.

While Apple’s new Lightning port may be a significant improvement over the nine-year-old 30-pin dock connector, it does come with a few downsides. Your old accessories aren’t compatible, for one, and Apple’s authentication means that only approved accessory manufacturers can use Lightning in their products.

LaCie has announced a couple of new additions to its Little Big Disk range of Thunderbolt drives for the Mac, with the introduction of models sporting SATA III SSDs. Available in either 512GB or 1TB capacities, the company says the new drives are 33% faster than the previous generation, offering read speeds of up to 635MB/s.

Following its unveiling alongside the iPhone 5 at last month’s media event, Apple has finally started notifying customers that their fifth-generation iPod touch has shipped, with estimated delivery dates varying between later this week and early next week.
