At Apple’s press event today, we were told that a new version of iTunes is on the way. Coming to our Macs in October, it will sport a new look and several new functions. At the time of writing, it’s not known if this new version will be the long sought after complete rewrite that many have been waiting for. However, Apple has at least given us a preview of the next major release.
The wait is finally over. Following months of rumours and speculation, Apple today unveiled the company’s sixth-generation iPhone, which as many people predicted, is called the iPhone 5. In addition to a taller screen, the new device boasts Apple’s latest A6 processor, 4G LTE capabilities, and a whole lot more.
Last month it was revealed that iOS 6 will be the first version of Apple’s mobile OS not to include a dedicated YouTube app, and that Google was working on a standalone version. With Apple expected to announce a release date for iOS 6 at tomorrow’s media event, Google has now released an iPhone version of the app.
As you can see from this photograph taken by Ekkapong Techawongthaworns, Apple has been busy decorating the front of the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco – the location of Wednesday’s media event, at which the Cupertino company is widely expected to unveil its next-generation iPhone.
NVIDIA has this week announced the Quadro K5000 graphics card for the Mac Pro. Described by the company as the most powerful professional-class GPU ever for the Mac platform, the next-generation card supports 4K resolutions and promises twice the performance of its predecessor, the Quadro 4000.
Amazon has today unveiled a new line of Kindle Fire tablets which look set to compete against Apple’s current iPad, and the much rumoured 7-inch iPad mini, which is widely expected to make its debut in October.
Apple has today released Java updates for OS X Mountain Lion, Lion, and Snow Leopard, which promise improved security, reliability, and compatibility. The updates bring the OS X version of Java up to par with Oracle’s latest release.
