During the second day of its I/O 2012 conference, Google announced it would be releasing a version of its Chrome browser for the iPhone and iPad, and just a few hours on from the announcement, the app is now available to download. Chrome for iOS includes tab syncing across devices, unlimited tabs, and an incognito browsing mode.

Back in 2008, a company called Axiotron launched the Modbook – an OS X tablet computer based on the MacBook. While it could be argued that Apple killed the market for such a device with the launch of the iPad, that hasn’t stopped one of Axiotron’s founders developing a new MacBook Pro based tablet – the Modbook Pro.

During its Google I/O 2012 conference in San Francisco earlier today, Google announced a brand new tablet called the Nexus 7. Starting at just £159 ($199), this 7-inch slate offers a quad-core processor, Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, and a 9-hour battery life. And as you might expect, it’s coming to do battle with the Amazon Kindle Fire rather than the iPad.

Apple has today released a standalone podcasts app for the iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch. The app, which some speculated would launch later this year with iOS 6, features a “Top Stations” guide for content discovery, playback syncing between different iOS devices, the ability to stream shows, and a sleep timer.

While reviews for the Retina display MacBook Pro have been mostly glowing, some early adopters of the machine have reported image retention issues with its high-resolution screen. Posts by users over on Apple’s Support Communities describe image “ghosting” – a faint image of a window or graphic that was previously open for as little as 20 minutes can be seen temporarily on the desktop before fading away.

Apple fan Art Matsak has created a fantastic resource for anybody with even the slightest interest in the history of the Cupertino company and its late co-founder Steve Jobs. Whilst reading Walter Issacson’s official biography of Jobs, Matsak realised that many of the events described in it were available to watch on YouTube, so he decided to create a web-based archive with the videos organised by the book’s chapters.

Ahead of OS X Mountain Lion’s public debut next month, Apple is inviting selected retail employees to test the new release before it hits the Mac App Store. The Cupertino company sent an email to Genius Bar and Creative employees that granted access to the software through Apple’s AppleSeed testing program.

Providing you are a registered Apple developer, you can now watch all of the Session Videos from this year’s Worldwide Developers Conference, which took place last week. There are a total of 113 videos available to watch via Apple’s website and iTunes, and they cover topics such as iCloud, Game Center, Gatekeeper, HTML5 and Xcode.
