Apple has today started offering versions of its latest 21.5-inch and 27-inch iMac models with built-in VESA mount adapters. The addition, which adds £36 ($40) to the total price of the machines, is only available with new orders. So, unfortunately, if you already own a 2012 iMac, you can’t purchase the adapter separately.
It may not have had the best of starts, but according to a report from The Loop, Apple has been working hard to improve its Maps app. Most recently, the Cupertino company has made significant improvements for users in China and Japan, but other countries and cities around the world have also received updates over the last few months.
Apple added couple of new TV adverts to its YouTube channel late last night. The ads, which are titled ‘Brilliant’ and ‘Discover’, have the same format as three previous commercials released for the iPad last month – short clips of apps punctuated by a series of printed words.
Photographs of an early 2005 iPhone prototype that looks more like an iPad than a smartphone have been shared online by Ars Technica. The images were sent to the site by an unnamed former Apple employee who was involved in a number of the company’s hardware projects in the early 2000s.
Apple Maps has received a torrent of criticism since its debut with iOS 6 last autumn, and its issues with accuracy have been well documented all over the web. So you might be surprised to hear that in a recent test by PC Mag, Apple Maps beat Google Maps and Waze at navigation.
Phil Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of worldwide marketing, is one of the few Apple executives that uses Twitter, and he’s quite popular, with just under 70,000 followers. He doesn’t use the service much — his last post was on Christmas Day — but today he couldn’t help but return just to tease Android users about malware.
As noted by The Mac Observer, Apple has slashed the price of its 768GB Flash Storage option for the company’s latest 27-inch iMac. Previously, the build-to-order component added an extra £1,040 ($1,300) to the total price of the machine, but now it’s available for £720 ($900).
Google has today released the first update for its standalone Google Maps app for the iPhone and iPod touch. The update, which takes the version of the app to 1.1, introduces a number of improvements, including new icons for faster local business searching, and integration with Google contacts.
Since they first went on sale back in October, Apple’s latest iMacs have been in short supply – leaving some customers with a wait of up to six weeks before they received their orders. But finally, the situation appears to be improving. Apple has slashed shipping estimates for the machines on a number of its online stores.
