Following Thursday’s release of a Java update which removes the most common variants of the Flashback trojan, Apple has released a Flashback malware removal tool for systems running OS X Lion that don’t have Java installed.

Apple has just pushed out a Java update for OS X which removes the now notorious Flashback trojan from infected Macs. The update, which weighs in at 66.8 MB also disables the automatic execution of Java applets.

An update to Java, which Apple released earlier in the week to address a vulnerability that is reported to have led to over half a million Macs to be infected by the Flashback trojan, has now been superseded by a second update.

According to Russian anti-virus company Dr. Web, more than half a million Macs worldwide are currently infected by the Flashback trojan, including 274 systems located in Apple’s own backyard – Cupertino, California.

To mark his 80th birthday, British pop artist Peter Blake has recreated the iconic album cover he designed for The Beatles’ Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band. Unlike the 1967 version, his modern re-imagination features only British icons, one of which is Apple’s Senior Vice President of Industrial Design – Jonathan Ive.
