Earlier today it appeared that Apple had started rolling out iTunes Match in Australia, Canada, the UK and other European countries – after some users noticed that the service was available as an option on their iTunes Account page. Unfortunately, it now seems that the rollout was premature.

A new documentary showcasing the life and achievements of Apple’s co-founder and former CEO will air for the first time tonight on BBC Two at 9.00pm. The hour-long show, presented by Evan Davis, promises to “decode the formula that took Apple from suburban Californian garage to global supremacy, telling the story of Steve Jobs’s rise, fall, and triumphant rise again.”

Towards the end of last month we told you about an Apple contract from 1976 which was due to be sold at auction for an estimated $150,000. That auction took place in New York yesterday, and according to Bloomberg the documents ended up selling for an incredible $1.59 million!

Apple have rolled out an update to iTunes which includes a number of improvements for iTunes Match, and a fix for an audio distortion problem which affected the playing & importing of some CDs. The update, which takes the software to version 10.5.2, is available via Software Update as a 16.6MB download, or you can grab a 106MB installer version from Apple’s website.

Apple have today issued a press release announcing that downloads on the Mac App Store have topped 100 million since its launch on the 6th of January this year. They also revealed that the store now features over 500,000 apps.

Apple have uploaded a new TV advert to their YouTube channel promoting the availability of The Beatles on iTunes. The ad, which is titled ‘Covers’, features animated versions of some of the Fab Four’s best-known album covers, and the song ‘Magical Mystery Tour’.

Apple opened the doors of its new retail store in New York City today, right in the heart of the Grand Central Terminal, and thousands of Apple fans turned up to take a look around.

Apple have today released their annual ‘12 days of Christmas‘ app for customers in the UK and other select European countries. The app, which is available for the iPad, iPhone and iPod touch, allows users to download free songs, music videos, apps and books, each day between the 26th of December and the 6th of January.

The Computer History Museum have this week launched a new online exhibition looking at the life of Steve Jobs. Titled ‘Steve Jobs… First, NeXT, One more thing…’ the exhibition includes an essay about the Apple co-founder, archival photographs and a 20 minute video from 1980.
