It would appear that a small number of both 21.5-inch and 27-inch iMacs sold between May and July this year, may have shipped with defective 1TB Seagate hard drives. As a precaution, Apple have issued a replacement program which will allow affected customers to get the drives replaced for free.

The MacBook Air wasn’t the only hardware to get a refresh today, Apple also released new Mac minis with Intel Sandy Bridge processors and high-speed Thunderbolt I/O ports. They also removed something from the previous generation – the optical disc drive! The new models, which are available to order today, range in price from £529 ($599) for the base model, to £849 ($999) for a server version.

As expected, Apple today updated their MacBook Air lineup with Intel’s Sandy Bridge processors, high-speed Thunderbolt I/O ports, and quite possibly one of the most requested features by users – backlit keyboards! The new models, which all feature Intel 3000 graphics, range in price from £849 ($999) to £1349 ($1599), and are available to order today.

Since OS X Lion’s new features were teased at WWDC back in June, it feels like the wait for Lion’s official public release has been a great deal longer than it actually has. However, as promised, Apple’s latest operating system hit the Mac App Store today, and is now available to download.

Apple have just announced financial results for their third fiscal quarter of 2011 – during which, they achieved all-time record revenue and earnings. In the announcement, which was done via a conference call, it was also confirmed that OS X Lion will be released tomorrow!

As promised, Apple just issued the iOS 4.3.4 update for the iPhone, iPod touch and iPad, and though you won’t find any new features in this release, it does patch a vulnerability recently made public by the launch of a recent jailbreak exploit.

You’ll know by now that yesterday’s iTunes Connect downtime wasn’t in preparation for the launch of Lion as we were all hoping. Instead, Apple used the time to set up the ‘Volume Purchase Program’ for the App Store’s business customers, in addition to balancing the store’s international pricing.

Two new iPhone 4 TV adverts were uploaded to Apple’s YouTube channel over the weekend. The adverts, which showcase AirPlay and FaceTime, continue their “If you don’t have an iPhone…” marketing campaign which began in March.

Last month, the London Mac User Group (LMUG) held a special event in the Wood Marylebone Pub, where 89 excited Mac users watched Steve Jobs & Co show off iOS 5, Mac OS Lion and iCloud at the WWDC Keynote. By all accounts the event was a resounding success, so it’s great to hear about their next event which will be held on the 18th of this month.
