The older Apple’s iPhone gets, the stronger the competition against it becomes. We’ve seen some terrific smartphones this year — the Samsung Galaxy S III and Galaxy Note II, the HTC One X, and the Nokia Lumia 920 to name a few — all of which have attempted to knock Apple’s popular smartphone off its perch. But it’s the iPhone 5 that’s been named TIME Magazine’s gadget of the year.

Following Adobe’s announcement back in August that it would be optimising a number of its products for the MacBook Pro with Retina display, the company has now released free updates for both Illustrator and Photoshop CS6, which add support for the machine’s super high resolution display.

During an interview with Bloomberg Businessweek last week, Apple CEO Tim Cook revealed that at least one of the Cupertino company’s Macs will be made exclusively in the United States from 2013. He didn’t reveal which machine that would be, but Fortune believes that there’s only one Mac that fits the bill, and that’s the Mac Pro.

Respected Apple news podcaster Mac OS Ken has shared an interesting discovery made by one his contributors – promotions for apps on the Apple TV. They can be found by navigating to Movies > Genres > Classics > Holiday Music, Movies, and More on the device, though they only seem to be present in the US iTunes Store – I was only able to find them after switching from the UK iTunes Store.

Tim Cook’s first official TV interview as Apple CEO, which was provided to NBC’s Rock Center, aired in the United States last night. In the interview, Cook spoke candidly about taking over from Steve Jobs, bringing Mac production to the US, legal fights with Samsung, product development, and his interest in the television market.

Apple has updated its annual 12 Days of Christmas app for customers here in the UK, other European countries, and Canada. The app, which is available for the iPad, iPhone and iPod touch, allows users to download free songs, music videos, apps, books and TV episodes each day between the 26th of December and the 6th of January.
