Apple to bring some Mac production back to the US

In an interview with Bloomberg Businessweek, Apple CEO Tim Cook has announced that the Cupertino company is planning to bring some of its Mac production back to the United States in 2013. As is the case in China, where Foxconn builds the company’s products, Apple will partner with third-party companies in the US rather than assembling the machines itself.

Pages, Numbers and Keynote for iOS have all been updated to add improved compatibility with their Microsoft counterparts Word, Excel, and Powerpoint. Google has today rolled out major updates to its YouTube and Gmail apps for iOS. The most notable changes made to the YouTube app include enhanced AirPlay functionality, and native support for the iPhone 5 and iPad. Updates made to the Gmail app include a completely revamped design, support for multiple accounts, and an infinite scrolling inbox.

In a press release issued by the company, Apple has announced the arrival of the iTunes Store in 56 new countries, including Russia, Turkey, India, and South Africa. First launched in the United States back in 2003, the announcement brings the total number of countries where the iTunes Store is available to 119.

World’s first iPad-only newspaper The Daily closing down

Along with a number of organisational changes taking place at the media giant, News Corp. has today announced that it is closing down its digital newspaper The Daily, on the 15th of December. Launched in February 2011 at a special New York media event involving Apple executive Eddy Cue, The Daily was hailed as the world’s first iPad-only newspaper, unfortunately it failed to attract enough subscribers.
