Apple started taking pre-orders for the iPad mini today, but after less than 20 minutes, estimated shipping times for the white model slipped to two weeks in the US, and apparently it was a similar situation here in the UK.

Apple announces Q4 2012 results, $36 billion in revenue, $8.2 billion net profit

Apple has today announced financial results for its fourth fiscal quarter of 2012. The Cupertino company reported revenue of $36.0 billion and a net profit of $8.2 billion, or $8.67 per diluted share. By comparison, for the same quarter last year it reported revenue of $28.3 billion and net profit of $6.6 billion, or $7.05 per diluted share.

Apple’s all-new 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display, which was announced on Tuesday, now has its very own TV advert. Titled ‘Colors’, the ad features a number of Apple’s Retina-optimised apps, including Aperture, Final Cut Pro, and iTunes – which are all shown running full-screen on the machine’s 2560 x 1600 display.

Apple’s Phil Schiller defends iPad mini pricing

Following Tuesday’s iPad mini announcement, Apple’s senior vice president of worldwide marketing Phil Schiller has found himself having to defend its pricing. Speaking to Reuters, Schiller said he believed consumers would see the 7.9-inch iPad, which starts at £269 ($329), as a premium product worth paying for.

After unveiling a new 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display, a slimmer iMac, updated Mac minis, and a 4th gen iPad, Apple unveiled the iPad mini at its special event in San Jose today. Featuring a 7.9-inch display, the iPad mini measures just 7.2mm thick, and weighs just 0.68 pounds.
