Apple is reportedly in talks with music labels over licenses for a new radio streaming service similar to those offered by Pandora and Spotify, in what would be a bid to “expand its dominance in online music.” The service would apparently be free, with support from iAds.

Remember that mysterious component discovered alongside what is alleged to be a leaked iPhone 5 front panel back in August? At the time, it sparked speculation that the iPhone 5 might be Apple’s first iOS device to boast NFC connectivity. But as it turns out, that mysterious part covers nothing more than the iPhone’s earpiece speaker.

Apple has today released Java updates for OS X Mountain Lion, Lion, and Snow Leopard, which promise improved security, reliability, and compatibility. The updates bring the OS X version of Java up to par with Oracle’s latest release.

As we’ve approached Apple’s iPhone 5 announcement on the 12th of September, we’ve seen a number of videos that show mockups and models of the device’s alleged new form factor, and how that compares to the design of its predecessors. But a new video that has surfaced today is believed to feature the real iPhone 5 – booting up on camera for the first time.

The BBC has today released an update to its popular iPlayer app for iOS which makes it possible to catch up on the corporation’s latest TV programmes on the iPhone or iPad, without needing a wi-fi or 3G connection.

Physical mockups of what are purported to be Apple’s upcoming iPhone 5 and iPad mini devices have surfaced at the IFA 2012 consumer electronics trade show in Berlin. Presumably based on a combination of leaked parts and schematics, the mockups were created by case manufacturers to test out their new accessories.

A video posted by Vietnamese website Tinhte.vn shows what is purported to be a pair of new, redesigned Apple earphones which could be bundled with the Cupertino company’s upcoming sixth-generation iPhone and future iPods.
