While it was always likely that iOS 6 was going to be one of the main announcements at WWDC 2012, this has now been officially confirmed with the installation of a huge banner (see above) at San Francisco’s Moscone Center – the venue for the four-day event.

As much as I love my Apple TV, I’ve always felt there is one thing missing, and that’s third-party applications. As things stand, users in the U.K. don’t have access to a great deal of services. But an Apple TV SDK would open it up to apps like BBC iPlayer, Spotify, Lovefilm, and lots, lots more. According to one source, that SDK is coming at WWDC next week.

At an event held earlier today in San Francisco, Google unveiled “the next dimension” of Google maps to members of the press. The search giant announced improved 3D imaging for the mobile version of Google Earth – the iOS app will get the feature in the coming weeks, and offline map viewing for Android devices only.

While we’re almost certain Apple won’t show off a new iPhone at this year’s Worldwide Developers Conference, there have been suggestions that the Cupertino company will refresh some of its Macs. A new MacBook Pro has been the subject of most rumors, but according to a list of leaked part numbers, that will be among 14 Macs to get upgraded in what could be Apple’s biggest refresh yet.

Belkin has today announced a new upgraded version of their Thunderbolt Express Dock – a device which was first unveiled back in September 2011. The most notable upgrades include the replacing of its three USB 2.0 ports with faster USB 3.0 versions, and the addition of an eSata port. While those changes may be welcomed, the new price might not be.

The photo above, which was posted on Chinese site Weiphone, appears to show the spec sheet of an upcoming 13-inch MacBook Pro. If genuine, it reveals the new model will have a 2.5GHz dual-core Intel Core i5 processor, Intel HD Graphics 4000 GPU, Bluetooth 4.0, and two USB 3.0 ports – suggesting this is an Ivy Bridge based MacBook Pro.

Matrox has today announced the Matrox DS1, a Thunderbolt dock aimed at MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, and Ultrabook owners. Priced at $249 (£169), the DS1 is a cheaper alternative to Belkin’s $299 (around £200) Thunderbolt Express Dock, but lacks a couple of features that could be deal breakers for some potential customers.

With Apple set to turn MobileMe off at the end of this month, subscribers to the service have recieved emails reminding them of the shutdown date. The company appears to have sent out a couple of different messages, one urging customers to move over to iCloud to keep their email working, while the other reminds users to download Gallery photos & iDisk files, and to move iWeb websites.
