I like my music, but I wouldn’t exactly say I’m an “audiophile,” so the free earbuds Apple bundles with its iOS devices suit me just fine. But to those who know a thing or two about music, they’re awful. They don’t sound all that great, apparently, and unlike other Apple products, their build quality is a little disappointing.

Apple has just pushed out a Java update for OS X which removes the now notorious Flashback trojan from infected Macs. The update, which weighs in at 66.8 MB also disables the automatic execution of Java applets.

After introducing the new iPad last month, Apple dropped the price of its iPad 2 to just £329 ($399), allowing it to better compete with cheaper Android tablets from the likes of Samsung and Amazon. We all assumed the device was exactly the same, just cheaper… but we were wrong.

Apple has allowed a second reporter to tour one of its Foxconn factories. Last week, Rob Schmitz, a China-based correspondent for the US radio show Marketplace, followed in the footsteps of ABC news anchor Bill Weir who was given access to a facility back in February.

Apple’s next-generation of MacBook Pros are shaping up to be notebooks worth getting excited about. In addition to Intel’s latest Ivy Bridge processors, the new machines are also expected to get a new design that will make them thinner and lighter than ever before, much like the MacBook Air. And there may not be too long to wait for them, either.

There’s a good chance you’ve heard about the Flashback trojan – malware that’s reported to have infected over 600,000 Macs. Anti-virus firm F-Secure provided Terminal commands to check systems for infection, but understandably, some users may have been wary of running them. Thankfully, there’s now a much easier way to check for the trojan.
